3-2-17 blue jean nation rally in waupun

“We’re living in mad times,”   says the founder of the nonpartisan grassroots group Blue Jeans Nation, and the group is holding an event in Waupun Saturday it calls “March Forth on March Fourth,” to help people think aloud about how to respond.  Blue Jeans Nation founder Mike McCabe says we’ve been through the most tumultuous, unpredictable and stressful election of our times, with more uncertainty and political turmoil in the nation than there’s been in a long time. He says it’s time for people to take back their government, on the state and national level.  “A lot of americans are at each others’ throats and there’s an awful lot of division and polarization,”   McCabe told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program.  “One side got stirred up and did a lot of protessting when Obama was first elected president and its sort of the other side now responding in an equally passionate way now that Trump has taken up residence in the White House.”    McCabe says there are parallels between the tea party movement and the protests taking place today across the country.  Registration information for the event is at ‘bluejeannation.com.’  According to McCabe, a big part of the problem is that ordinary “blue-jeans folks” don’t run for public office anymore, and he says that has to change.  Last year, Blue Jean Nation held a similar event that attracted people from every part of the state. McCabe thinks this Saturday’s gathering in Waupun will draw twice as many people. He says this kind of change involves a long process, but is confident it’s underway.   The gathering is open to the public for a ten-dollar registration fee and will be held at the Waupun Historical Society building Saturday beginning at 1 pm.
