3-28-17 fdl salvation army warming shelter closing this week

The Salvation Army ends its first season operating a warming shelter from it’s 237 N. Macy St Community Corps location March 31.   Captains Steven and Telinda Wilson will host a wrap up, information and discussion meeting April 3 at 6 pm in the Fellowship Hall at 237 N. Macy Street.
“We welcome everyone from the community that has been involved in helping at the shelter, those willing to help in the future, those who regularly work with those who are struggling in our community, those that have suggestions, and those who just want to better understand the challenges of working with the homeless population,” Captain Telinda said.   The Salvation Army opened its warming shelter doors November 1, providing start up supplies and operation funds, a washer and dryer, shower supplies,  two meals and “to go” daytime snacks, socks, gloves, hats, Christmas gifts, hand warmers, and volunteer support.    The Salvation Army says it hopes to create a planning and implementing team that comes together as a community to address homelessness, to continue to build services at the warming shelter that are relevant to the evolving needs of the homeless.
