3-30-17 two men accused of setting car on fire to collect insurance money

Two men are accused of setting a car on fire in Oakfield to try to collect insurance money.  Forty two year old Damon Marshall of Illinois and 50 year old Shane Gibbs of Missouri are charged in Fond du lac County Circuit Court with arson with intent to defraud, and criminal damage to property.  Marshall is also charged with resisting an officer.   Bail was set at $50,000 cash for Marshall and $25,000 for Gibbs. According to a criminal complaint Gibbs and Marshall both worked for the same company and were driving a company car.   According to the complaint Marshall told a sheriff’s deputy the car had been stolen, but  Gibbs told investigators that at Marshall’s request he purchased  gas and a gas can at the Rolling Meadows BP gas station and drove about five miles outside of town where Marshall started the car on fire.  Marshall is accused of trying to get the insurer to pay out a claim for a stolen company car.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 6th.
