Five candidates are running for three seats on the Fond du Lac city council in next week’s spring election. Incumbents Greg Giles, Catherine Block and Brian Kolstad are running for re-election along with challengers Bill Turner and Thornton Albertz. Giles was appointed to the council and was elected for the first time two years ago. “Fond du Lac is a wonderful community, great place to raise a family, great values and one of the reasons why I was excited to serve on city council,” Giles said. Turner served on the council from 1996 to 2002. Turner says the city would thrive if residents have money to spend. “With 41 percent of the people living pay check to pay check you got to take into consideration the plight that they’re going through. We have to watch property taxes,” Turner said. Block is an attorney running for her third term. “I think there’s room for improvement. That’s what we’ve been trying to do over the last few years.” Kolstad says he has enjoyed his time on the council. “Its challenging. Just being out and hearing what the citizens have to say about the city and making the best decisions for them…I really enjoy that process.” Kolstad says he thinks the city is headed in the right direction.
