There is a contested race for Fond du lac School Board in next week’s Election. Incumbent Mark Strand is running along with challengers, Greg Freiherr, Dan Sitter and Monica Walk for two seats. Incumbent Julie Nett is not running for re-election. When it comes to teachers leaving the district, Strand says he is concerned that 90 teachers have resigned in the last three years. “I’ve had it with teacher resignations. We’re great at hiring them, but I really do believe I think its important to let them know we appreciate them,” Strand said. Freiherr says teachers have to be listened to by district administrators. “You can imagine if you worked for somebody and they said your opinion doesn’t count, we’re not going to involve you in our decisions, would you be happy there? More than likely you wouldn’t be,” Frieherr said. Walk says the district needs to ask teachers why they are leaving. “I think we really need to be conducting true exit interviews and asking them why they leave and using that information to do something about it.” Sitter left the Fond du lac School District three years ago for the North Fond du Lac District. “We need to re-establish this idea that teachers are welcome to share their opinions. Got to figure out how to make sure our staff feel secure and welcome in the environment everyday they go to work.”
