MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Attorney General Brad Schimel has appointed a new administrator to lead the state Justice Department’s Division of Criminal Investigation. Schimel announced Monday that Brian O’Keefe is the new DCI head. O’Keefe has been with the Justice Department since 2011, when Schimel’s predecessor, J.B. Van Hollen, hired him as Division of Law Enforcement Services administrator. O’Keefe began his law enforcement career as a Milwaukee Police aide in 1981 and retired from that agency in 2008 as deputy chief in charge of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. He worked in corporate security before joining the Justice Department. DCI Deputy Administrator Jason Smith has been running the division since October, when Schimel moved then-Administrator David Matthews into a policy adviser role. Schimel said then that he wanted a different management style at DCI.
