The 2017 Rosendale Memorial Day commemoration will begin at 10 a.m. in the Rosendale Intermediate School south gymnasium. This year is the 151st anniversary of the annual event which is a national holiday to honor veterans and those who have served our country. One of the highlights of the event is a slide show of area veterans and the branch of service where they served. The 2017 Poppy Princess and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Merit Citation winner will be announced at the commemoration Monday, May 29. Also, winners of the Memorial Day Essay Contest and Poster Contest will be revealed. The two winners of the essay contest will read their compositions and the winning poster will be displayed. Adorning this year’s Memorial Day program is the artwork selected as the winner of the 2016 poster contest. The Rosendale High School Band the school chorus will perform patriotic numbers at the ceremony in the gym. Following the ceremony and weather permitting, local organizations including the VFW, Scouts, 4-H, Lions Club and the Laconia High School Band will march to the cemetery to conduct closing ceremonies at the Veterans Memorial. Everyone is invited to bring flowers to decorate graves. |
