The vice president of the company that installed the hardwood gym floor at Fond du Lac High School says her company has been unfairly blamed for the failure of the gym floor, 17 years after it was first installed. The Fond du Lac School Board recently voted to spend up to $350,000 to replace the floor this summer. Vice president of Baseman Brothers, Vicki Marshall, says the company correctly installed the floor based on the specifications of the architect. “The architect talks with the school and between the two they decide what they want to put in their school,” Marshall told AM 1170 WFDL’s Betwen the Lines program. “They picked this flooring system and then we installed it according to specs.” Marshall says in the first couple of years after it was installed the company repaired boards that had been damaged when track team members were using the gym to practice shot-put. “In the eight years we had a relationship with them (FDL school district) we repaired their broken boards because of shot put, there was nothing else that happened at that time. I don’t know what’s happening now.” Earlier this month the company sent a four page letter to the district expressing their concerns. Marshall says she has not received a response from the school district. “It would be nice to see whats happening with the floor. They won’t even let us in there to look at it.”
