Area law enforcement are preparing for a huge surge in traffic this week with the U.S. Open golf tournament getting underway. Dodge County sheriff Dale Schmidt says the Erin Hills golf course is located less than a mile from the town of Ashippun/Dodge County line. Schmidt says an estimated 20,000 to 40,000 or more fans and workers will gather daily at the event. Through Sunday County Highway O near the event is closed to all traffic and motorists are being detoured on County Highway P to state Highway 60, east to Hartford, then south on state Highway 83. Schmidt encourages motorists to be patient and cautious if traveling in the area.
