Fond du lac Fire and Rescue officials say stormwater run-off following heavy rain may be to blame for a large oil slick on the Fond du Lac River. Firefighters were called to a report of an oil slick on the river near the Scott St. Bridge Monday morning and found pockets and areas of oil sheen floating on top of the water. Crews used an oil absorbent boom across the river to collect the unknown oil substance. The floating booming, which is located just south of the Lakeside west boat launch will remain in the river for the next couple of days to collect any residual oil. Boating motorists should be aware that the booming is in place and that travel on the river south of the boat launch is impassable. The Department of Natural Resources has been contacted about the oil sheen.
