Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue is being recognized as Dementia Friendly. The Fond du Lac Dementia Friendly Task Force presented the department with a Purple Angel decal for completing specialized training to better understand and treat patients with dementia. Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue’s Troy Haase says there are an estimated 2,200 people living with dementia in Fond du Lac County so it is fairly common that EMS and fire personnel encounter these individuals. The focus of the training was to better understand the disease and learn about better ways to interact with these patients. In doing so, they can help to minimize anxiety and better provide medical care or other assistance in emergency situations. Each station received a Purple Angel decal for display to show support for the “dementia-friendly” initiative.
