With a recent rise in severe weather around the area, Waupun is making a move to upgrade the siren system in the city.
Fire Department officials say the system is overdue for an upgrade, and they already pay too much in repairs to keep it running.
At Tuesday’s city council meeting, a bid of $66,000 was awarded to a contractor to upgrade to a new battery operated system, guaranteeing they will work in the event of a power outage.
