A Democratic member of the legislature’s Joint Finance committee says an education funding plan approved this week doesn’t go far enough for public education. State representative Gordon Hintz of Oshkosh voted against the plan that increases spending on K-12 schools by $639 million over the next two years. “There’s new money for schools after years of being cut. I know that the education community was just happy not to take another step backward,” Hintz told WFDL news. But Hintz says he’s concerned that the plan didn’t do enough to help public schools, while spending millions more for private schools in the choice program.
