The Fond du Lac city council has approved the creation of a Tax Increment Financing district for the downtown Retlaw Hotel renovation project. Community Development director Dyann Benson says terms of the TIF minimize the risk for the city. “I would never say there is never any risk, however, when we put together this development agreement we really put in a lot of different measures in order to preserve and minimize any risk to the city’s investment,” Benson told WFDL news. Meanwhile Benson says renovation work is expected to start soon. “Given the size of the project, the different financing components, it needed to run its course before they could really get started. I think will probably looking at a June or July opening.”
