A proposed Fond du Lac city budget continues to focus on driving down the city’s overall debt. City manager Joe Moore presented the proposed 2018 budget at Wednesday night’s Fond du Lac city council meeting. Moore says the city will borrow money for a couple of major street projects including stretches of Main Street and Fond du Lac Avenue. “One is the complete repair of Main Street north of Merrill Avenue, south of Johnson Street. I’m sure listeners will be happy to know that Fond du Lac Avenue between 6th Street and the golf course (South Hills Counytry Club) will be completely replaced next summer,” Moore told WFDL news. The budget also earmarks money for a police/fire training center. “The estimated cost of construction for an indoor weapons range and a fire training tower would be about $3.9 million,” Moore said. “We have found a piece of land that we are going to purchase. The soil tests and the wetlands delineation have come back very positively, so we’re very happy with that.” Moore says there is no money is the budget at this time for a staffed security checkpoint at the government building.
