10-17-17 fdl school district asked to contribute more money to career construction academy

The Fond du Lac School Board will discuss their next step with a fundraising effort for a new Construction Academy still nearly $300 million short of the goal.   School Board president Mark Jurgella says the question is whether the school district should contribute another $250 thousand on top of the half million taxpayer dollars already earmarked for the project.  “That was our pledge to get the project rolling forward,”  Jurgella told WFDL news.  “That wasn’t our limit, that wasn’t our cap, and what I want to do at our next meeting is have the board discuss their thoughts on this.”    Jurgella says  the question before the board is whether to spend more money, ask iconstruction-trade  representatives that would benefit from the program to continue fundraising, or scale back the project.  School officials say the academy will enable educators to teach students the fundamentals of several construction trades, from architecture and engineering to carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
