A Fond du Lac judge is asking the county board to reconsider a staffed security checkpoint be installed at the Fond du Lac City-County Government Center. Fond du Lac County Circuit Judge Dale English, spoke at a public hearing Tuesday night on the proposed county budget. English is asking the city and county to jointly fund a staffed security checkpoint with metal detector at the north entrance to the building. All other entrances would be closed. The total cost is estimated at $250,000. Money is not included in the proposed budget for the added security. English says steps need to be taken now to prevent a potential tragedy from occurring in the future. Judge English says he’s also concerned about the national political rhetoric and comments by president Donald Trump. “We have a very toxic and inflammatory environment in this country in general,” English said.
