The Wisconsin Department of Transportation  is taking public comments on the proposed four lane expansion of state Highway 23 between Fond du lac and  Plymouth.   The public comments  are part of  the DOT effort to update the Environmental Impact Statement relating to the project.  Comments can be submitted electronically to bryan.lipke@dot.wi.gov or by mail  and are due by Sunday November 12.  The project has been on hold for several years due to […]

Governor Scott Walker says inmates at the Lincoln Hills youth prison have become emboldened following repeated media reports and court-ordered operational changes.  The governor made the comment in a memo to  Corrections Secretary Jon Litscher, and obtained by WFDL news.  The governor says since a court order in July limited the use of pepper spray and solitary confinement, there have been numerous examples of juvenile misconduct and assaults on staff.   […]

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A researcher from a federal laboratory in Madison is experimenting with using ultraviolet light to control a fungal disease that has killed millions of cave-dwelling bats in the United States. Daniel Lindner is a research plant pathologist with the U.S. Forest Service. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Lindner has received almost $156,000 from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to fund his research of white-nose syndrome.

(AP) — The state Senate is poised to adopt a bill designed to crack down on deadly opioids known as fentanyl analogs.  The highly potent drug is being added to heroin to stretch its use, leading to spikes in overdoses across the state.
