The chairman of the Assembly Education committee says he’s pleased a bipartisan task force is being formed to study school funding in the state. Republican state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt of Fond du Lac says he would like to the see the formula include some sort of baseline funding that all school districts will receive. “If you go through all the processes the formula creates and your amount comes below that, then you get kicked up to that base, lower amount,” Thiesfeldt told WFDL news. While many school administrators and legislators believe the current funding formula is broke, Thiesfeldt maintains its better than most states. “We have some states out there where lawsuits have been filed and the state supreme court in their particular state has ordered them to fix the funding formula because they don’t believe they are constitutionally getting an adequate amount of money to fund education on an equal basis,” Thiesfeldt said. “We aren’t at that point in Wisconsin but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take a look if we can do it better.”
