A coalition of faith-based networks and anti-poverty groups have launched a campaign to end child poverty in Wisconsin. The campaign has a goal of reducing child poverty and racial disparities by half in the next decade. Peter Bakken with the Wisconsin Council of Churches says it’s a moral issue. “Whether we think its high, whether we think its low, for any child in our state to be in poverty to be deprived of the opportunity for growth, development, a fulfilling and productive life, that’s too many,” Bakken told AM 1170s Between the Lines program. Ken Taylor with the group Kids Forward says child poverty is a statewide problem, not just in big cities. The organizations are encouraging residents to sign a pledge to end child poverty in Wisconsin. You can do that by logging on to the website, endchildpovertywi.org.
