Heavy trucks can no longer drive over the South Hickory Street Bridge in Fond du lac. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has reduced the load limit on the the bridge between Western Avenue and S. Military Road to 30-Tons, affecting heavily loaded semi traffic. The limit was ordered after deteoriation in the bridge was discovered during an inspection last year. City officials say the bridge remains safe to normal traffic. All heavy semi traffic above 30 tons is required to use an alternate route to preserve the integrity of the bridge. The City says it will be working with engineers to continue to evaluate the structure of the bridge. The City of Fond du Lac currently has over 34 bridges which are required by state law to be inspected.
