Madison mayor Paul Soglin says Wisconsin has gone backward under Republican governor Scott Walker. Soglin announced this week that he was entering the crowded Democratic field in the race for governor. Soglin criticized Walker for the $3 billion incentives package to lure FoxConn. “That’s not the way you build jobs. When you look what its costing per job and then you look at the fact that we’re only now beginning to discover there’s even greater costs we didn’t know about,” Soglin told AM 1170s Between the Lines program. “The state is already in serious trouble in terms of roads and road safety and now Governor Walker is cutting needed road projects all over the state so they can shift the money over to Foxconn.” Soglin says the state should be doing more to invest in small businesses. Soglin says the money earmarked for FoxConn could have been better spent in other areas including education and transportation.
