The Fond du lac County executive says he’s confident a renovation project at the downtown Fond du Lac Retlaw Hotel will begin soon. After gutting the interior of the building last summer and fall, there has been little activity over the last several months. But Fond du Lac County executive Al Buechel says it appears that will change in the next several weeks. “The first indication of something moving forward was the first week of January. Our attorney got a contact from their attorney talking about moving forward the agreement with the county,” Buechel told WFDL news. “Thats a very good sign. We did have a conference call last week with the financing partners to make sure we are all on the same page.” Buechel says he’s optimistic that after February 15 everything should be in place to get the project going. Meanwhile, Buechel says a new expansion project at Midstates Aluminum will create dozens of new jobs. Buechel updated the county finance committee on both projects this week.
