A spokesperson for the Wisconsin Farmer’s Union as President Donald Trump marks his first year in office he has fallen short on addressing many needs of farmers.   Kara O’Connor says one area the Farmers Union welcomed was President Trump’s willingness to take a hard look at the Trans Pacific Partnership.  But O’Connor says other areas have hit farmers hard.  She says the president has done nothing to address problems with the Dairy Margin Protection program.  O’Connor says the president has also not been truthful when it comes to the estate tax.   “One of the disappointing  moments in president Trump’s speech at the Farm Bureau convention was, I’m going to speak quite frankly, buying into the lie that farmers are losing their farms because of the estate tax,”  O’Connor told WFDL news.  “It is simply not true.  Less than one half of one percent  of farms ever pay any estate tax.”    She says most farmers will also not benefit from the Republican tax reform bill.   Trump spoke on ag issues at the American Farm Bureau convention in Nashville, Tennessee last week.
