1-18-18 senate race-fallout

State Democratic party leaders say an upset Democratic victory in a traditionally conservative senate district this week may be an early sign of what to expect this fall.   Democrat Patty Schachtner was elected to a state senate seat that was held by Republican Sheila Harsdorf for 17 years before she was appointed state ag secretary last year.   State Democratic party chairwoman Martha Lanning says people in that district and elsewhere across the state feel they aren’t being listened to by the Republican legislators.  “Certainly Donald Trump and what he as the leader of the Republican party is doing is scaring people,”  Lanning told AM 1170s Between the Lines program.   Fond du Lac County Republican Party chairman Rohn Bishop says he was  surprised but not shocked.  Bishop says there was a national effort to turn the race into a referendum against Donald Trump and says it should be a wake-up call for Republicans.
