The executive director of Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County says a new report that shows one-fourth of Wisconsin residents binge drink is sad but not surprising. The CDC study shows Wisconsin has a higher percentage of binge drinkers than the national average and Ellen Sorenson says Fond du lac County’s binge drinking rate is 40 percent higher than the state average. “Its interesting when I go to regional or state meetings and I have to share Fond du Lac County’s binge drinking rate,” Sorenson told WFDL news. “We have a very high binge drinking rate in Fond du lac County.” Sorenson says she’s not sure if people understand what the definition of binge drinking is. The definition is four or more drinks for women and five drinks for men in a short period of time. “These are people 35 and older and it doesn’t have a socio-economic indicator. Its people who are educated, its males and females, professionals, its not a certain demographic.” Sorenson says the problem in Wisconsin is the alcohol culture.
