Governor Scott Walker has ordered flags to half-staff on Sunday in honor of former Wisconsin attorney general Peg Lautenschlager. Lautenschlager died last month at her home in Fond du Lac after a long battle with cancer. She was 62. A public memorial will be held from 1-4pm Sunday at the Whispering Springs Golf Course in Fond du Lac. Friends and fellow politicians are remembering Lautenschlager as someone who was passionate about politics and the rights of those who were less fortunate. Longtime Democratic party activist and close friend Tom Kitchen says Lautenschlager was always an advocate for the average person. “For the people who didn’t have a voice. She had a deep commitment to social justice,” Kitchen told WFDL news. Lautenschlager was the first woman elected Winnebago County District Attorney in 1985, the first woman state attorney general and first woman elected to the 52nd Assembly District.
