The Fond du lac County Public Health Department is reminding residents to take steps to be safe and stay warm with extreme cold temperatures. Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says know the signs and symptoms of hypothermia. “Warning signs in adults and children are shivering, exhaustion, confusion, memory loss, slurred speech and drowsiness,” Mueller told WFDL news. Mueller says the signs are similar to someone who is intoxicated. Mueller says if you don’t have to go outside when its this cold, don’t. If you have to venture out, dress in several loose fitting layers and wear a hat, gloves and snow boots. Check on your friends, family and neighbors to make sure they are okay. Also limit outdoor time for pets. Extreme cold is dangerous for animals too.
