3-1-19 no injuries in town of oakfield house fire

Nobody was injured in a fire that damaged a home in Fond du Lac County.  Shortly before 9:30am  Thursday, firefighters were called to the Tom and Julie Hilbert residence located at W7256 Hunter Lane in the Town of  Oakfield.   Two people and a pet dog were able to get out of the house safely.   The house sustained water and smoke damage, but no structural damage.  The cause of the fire […]

The director of the government watchdog group Common Cause in Wisconsin is applauding the governor’s plan for a nonpartisan redistricting process.  Democratic governor Tony Evers will propose the plan as part of the state budget he introduces Thursday.  Common Cause in Wisconsin director Jay Heck says it makes sense to take responsibility of drawing the state’s political maps away from the legislature and give it to a nonpartisan agency instead.  […]

2-28-19 fdl bulky waste fee structure

The city of Fond du Lac is planning to experiment with a new fee structure for its bulky waste disposal program.   The Fond du Lac city council approved a resolution Wednesday night restructuring the solid waste fee schedule.  Public Works director Jordan Skiff says starting in April instead of a flat $20 fee per load,  the  new structure will charge depending on the amount of bulky waste being dropped off.  […]

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Milwaukee man who tried to join and fight for the Islamic State has been sentenced to seven years in a federal prison.  Federal prosecutors say Jason Ludke was a "true danger" and asked for a 20-year sentence followed by a lifetime of supervised released. NEENAH, Wis. (AP) — Authorities in Wisconsin have released 911 calls and police video that show the chaos of a deadly, 131-car pileup during whiteout conditions.
