A Republican member of the legislature’s budget committee says he still thinks the Foxconn project will be a positive for the state, even if its focus is different. Foxconn announced last week that it plans to shift its focus from making liquid crystal displays more toward research and development. Then on Friday the company said it still planned to proceed with a smaller manufacturing facility. Republican state representative Mark Born of Beaver Dam says if Foxconn doesn’t create the promised 13,000 jobs they won’t get their tax incentives from the state. Born says whatever is built he still believes the project will have a major positive impact on the state.
