The Fond du Lac County Board has approved a resolution to continue the countywide sales tax. At their meeting Tuesday night the board voted to terminate the scheduled sales tax sunset date of December 31, 2021. County Board supervisor and finance committee chair Marty Ryan says residents would pay more without the sales tax. “Because you’re going to borrow more,” Ryan told WFDL news. County executive Al Buechel says in addition to helping Mercury Marine and other industries, the sales tax has helped in other areas including highway maintenance. Buechel says its estimated that about a quarter of the sales tax revenue is generated from people outside of Fond du lac County. Last year the sales tax raised just under $8.4 million in Fond du Lac County.
