4-9-19 grassfire danger

The DNR and area fire officials are warning residents to be cautious when doing any outdoor burning with an elevated danger of wildfires this time of year.  Last week firefighters responded to several grass fires along Interstate 41 in Fond du Lac county.  Waupun fire chief B.J. DeMaa the forecast for precipitation this week is good news because conditions have become very dry in many areas since flooding rainfall last month.  “I think that’s what is kind of catching people a little off guard.  When you think though, a lot of the rain or I should say water that we had, a lot of it was attributed to such a quick snowmelt.  So a lot of that water, the ground was still frozen, a lot of it ran off.”   DeMaa says people should check the conditions first before doing any outdoor burning.
