Nobody was injured in a fire that caused significant damage to a Waupun apartment. Shortly after 11pm Monday firefighters were called to the two story, two unit apartment at 36 W. Franklin Street to see flames in the front of the house and in the living room area. Firefighters knocked the fire down within 20 minutes and were on the scene for three hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Tenants in both apartment units were able to escape without injury. The unit sustained significant smoke and fire damage and the neighboring unit also sustained smoke damage. No firefighters were hurt during operations. Agencies assisting at the scene included fire departments from Alto and Brandon/Fairwater, Fond du Lac County RIT Team 5, the Waupun Police Department, Lifestar Ambulance, Waupun Utilities, and Alliant Energy. In total, 3 people were displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and damage estimates have yet to be determined.
