The government relations director for Clean Wisconsin says a lot of progress has been made since the first Earth Day 49 years ago. Earth Day was founded by the late U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970. Amber Meyer-Smith with Clean Wi says its important to remember why protecting the environment is so important to our future. She says our environment matters to our economic health and we need to treat it as such. “How far we’ve come, but how far we still need to come is what’s on my mind right now,” Meyer-Smith told WFDL news. “…so many huge challenges in terms of environmental protection and protecting people’s health from pollution.”
