The Fond du lac city manager says the hope is that a one block stretch of Macy Street near downtown Fond du Lac can re-open to traffic by the first full week of May. The street has been closed for more than a month after several bricks fell off the side of the Macy Street mini mall building. City manager Joe Moore told WFDL news the property owner continues to work with their contractor and structural engineer to undertake corrective measures to preserve the building. Moore says the building had significant structural issues that compromised the front wall beyond a number of bricks falling off of the facade. City staff continues to work with the owner, contractor and structural engineer to keep the project moving forward. Moore says he wouldn’t be surprised if there was a connection between the bricks giving way and the flooding rainfall that had occurred prior.
