Motorists will be hitting the road later this week for the unofficial start of the summer vacation season. AAA is forecasting the second highest travel volume on record for the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday weekend. State AAA spokesman Nick Jarmuscz says nearly 43 million Americans will kick off the summer travel season with a Memorial Day vacation, and says drive times could be more than three times longer than normal. Jarmuscz says in Wisconsin, travel will pick up Thursday and Friday. Gas prices have increased by more than 30 cents in the last two months with the national average approaching $3 a gallon. But Jarmuscz says that won’t deter holiday travelers.
