The chairman of the Assembly Corrections committee says a proposed pay increase for correctional officers is part of a comprehensive plan to address security issues in the state’s correctional system. Republicans on the Jt. Finance Committee this week approved a plan that will provide pay increases for corrections officers up to $19 an hour. Republican state representative Michael Schraa says he believes the pay increase will have an impact on addressing a staff vacancy rate at state prisons. Schraa says he’s hopeful the governor will support the pay increase.
