7-2-19 redistricting ruling-league of women voters of wi

The executive director of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin says she is not surprised, but is disappointed at last week’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling that federal courts have no place in policing political district boundaries.  The ruling means a challenge to Republican-drawn legislative boundaries in Wisconsin is likely over.  League of Women Voters of Wisconsin director Erin Grunze says she fears the ruling will only make partisan gerrymandering worse.  “I think it does put the onus now on the states to take care of how the maps are drawn,”  Grunze told WFDL news.  “That’s something we’ve been saying all along and pushing the Wisconsin legislature to take this issue up and correct this wrong that has been practiced.”   Grunze says the League is again pushing for the Wisconsin legislature to adopt the non-partisan Iowa redistricting model.
