The director of a government watchdog group says now its up to Wisconsin residents if they want to end partisan gerrymandering. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled last week that federal courts have no place in policing political boundaries, ending Wisconsin’s legal fight over political boundaries Republicans drew in 2011. Common Cause in Wisconsin director Jay Heck says Wisconsin’s maps will now have to be addressed by the legislature. “It was a cowardly decision. They’ve (Supreme Court) introduced a new word to the american vocabulary. They said it’s not judiciable. I’ve never heard that term before,” Heck told WFDL news. “It’s the highest court in the land and they can certainly adjudicate on anything and they simply said that partisanship is something they can’t figure out. I think it’s because the Supreme Court is extremely partisan in and of itself.” Heck says Wisconsin should use a non-partisan redistricting model that is used in Iowa.
