9-19-19 republican lawmaker accuses governor of playing politics with assistant prosecutor positions

A Republican lawmaker on the legislature’s joint finance committee is accusing the governor of picking political winners and losers in announcing the allocation of assistant district attorney positions this week.  Governor Tony Evers announced that more than 60 new assistant prosecutors would be spread out across 56 counties including two new positions in Fond du Lac and Winnebago counties and one new position in Dodge county.  But republican state representative Mark Born of Beaver Dam says he’s disappointed the governor took needed positions from Monroe and Manitowac counties to give them to Milwaukee County.  Born says Monroe and Manitowac counties were staffed at 41-percent and 51-percent of  need and Milwaukee County was already staffed at 115-percent of estimated need.  “I definately think it was a political move,”  Born told WFDL news.  “How else would you justify it?”   The percentage of need data is from the most recent District Attorney workload analysis compiled by the Legislative Audit Bureau.
