The Fond du Lac school board has accepted the surprise resignation of the school district curriculum director. Danica Lewis is stepping down effective November 1 after eight years with the district. Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says Lewis is leaving to do “turnaround work” with Milwaukee Public Schools and curriculum alignment work with Chicago Public Schools through the consulting firm First Educational Resources. While working as curriculum director, Lewis was also employed with First Educational Resources. Recently school board members questioned why her 12 month contract with the school district was reduced to a 10 and a half month contract without their knowledge. Sebert says those questions were at least one factor of Lewis’ decision to leave. “There has been some challenges with some of the board in terms of this consulting work and questioning it and wondering about it,” Sebert told WFDL news. “I think that was a determining factor for her to say maybe it isn’t worth it to me. I have opportunities.” Sebert defends Lewis’ work as a consultant while also working full time with the school district and says she did not do any consulting work on school district time. “She had asked for contract reductions, she was using vacation time prior to that,” Sesbert said. Sebert says there are no immediate plans for finding a replacement.
