The Republican Party of Fond du Lac County is honoring former congressman Tom Petri. Petri was presented with the Governor Scott McCallum Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Reagan Night event on Thursday night at South Hills Country Club in Fond du Lac. “I’m honored that he (McCallum) presented me with the award named after him,” Petri told WFDL news. Petri was first elected to the congress in 1979, announcing his retirement before the 2014 election. Petri says he splits his time between Washington D.C. and Fond du lac. He works for a couple of nonprofit organizations, Rails to Trails, which promotes development of abandoned railroad beds across the country. He is also on the board of a group made up of 700 former U.S. representatives and senators called Congress to Campus.
