10-28-19 fdl man rescues man from rr tracks

Brandon Hau says he is glad he was in the right place at the right time  to rescue  a Fond du Lac man who got his recumbent bicycle stuck on the railroad tracks with a train barreling toward him.   The owner of J & M Trucking was on his way back to work when he noticed a man on his recumbent bicycle and his dog approaching the Scott Street railroad crossing as the gates were coming down for an approaching train.    After losing both legs  to a rare disease,  74 year old Floyd Freiberg uses his arm-powered modified recumbent bike to get around town.  Hau says he watched as Freiberg’s dog lurched to the side, lodging the wheels of the bike in the railroad tracks with an approaching train. Hau says without thinking twice he put the parking brake on the truck and sprinted over.  “I just grabbed onto the front tire of the bike and told Floyd hang on.  Pulled him the dog and bike down the embankment there,”  Hau told WFDL news.  Hau says within the next couple seconds the train went by.
