Fond du Lac residents have a chance to comment as the Fond du Lac Police Department seeks accreditation. Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb says an on-site assessment will be held next month as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying the department meets professional standards. Lamb says accreditation can help prevent costly litigation issues, and ensuring the safety of officers and community at large. Lamb says accreditation also helps the department build community trust. “We as a department and certainly me as a police chief need to be able to tell the taxpayers in every single benchmark of professional excellence we have proven that we are operating in that area. If that doesn’t go a long ways toward building trust between a police department and community I don’t know what does,” Lamb told WFDL news. While there are upfront costs with accreditation, Lamb says the obvious benefit is preventing costly lawsuits in the case of litigation. The public information session starts at 5pm November 13 at the Fond du Lac Police Department on North Main Street.
