The owner of a vacant convention building in Fond du Lac has filed an appeal in an effort to prevent the city from razing the structure. The owner of the Sisters of the Holy Nativity Convent filed the appeal last month to overturn a decision to dismiss a restraining order against the city and transferred a $30,000 performance bond to the court. The appeal and money transfer comes a month after a Fond du lac judge temporarily stayed demolition of the building. The building was severely damaged by an arson fire in June 2015. The city has argued that no significant effort has been made to repair the convent and that it presents a danger to the community. City attorney Deb Hoffman says the city was left with no choice but to raze the structure.
