4-8-20 league of women voters of wi director disappointed election wasn’t postponed

The executive director of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin says while she was pleased to see so many people voting in Tuesday’s spring election she is also concerned for their health.   Hundreds of voters waited in line at many locations across the state, ignoring the governor’s stay at home order over the coronavirus threat.  “I honestly don’t know if I should be delighted people are committed to their voting rights.  That’s something near and dear to my heart obviously or if I should be fearful that we’re going to exacerbate the pandemic in Wisconsin,”  League director Debra Cronmiller told WFDL news.    Cronmiller says she was hoping the governor would be successful in postponing the election.   She says if the election had been postponed, elected officials would have simply stayed in office until the election was held.  “Sitting election officials would remain in their posts until which time a successor could be elected,”  Cronmiller read from the governor’s order.   “That was the same guidance we had from our attorneys as we were moving through the process in the courts to try to get the election postponed.”
