The Fond du Lac County executive says work will begin this week on construction of a new parking lot at Hobbs Woods. The popular hiking trail south of Fond du Lac was closed last week until further notice due to high crowds and to prevent spread of the coronavirus. In addition county executive Al Buechel says the county parks director says the trail is wet and in poor shape due to heavy use. “He said the thing is being so overused, it’s so wet and the Sheriff’s Department is having issues with parking. People parking on both sides of the road,” Buechel told WFDL news. Buechel says the north parking lot is being replaced by a larger parking lot on the southside of the trail. “We only have 12 spots in the old one,” Buechel said. “The north one will be closed.” Buechel says the new parking lot will have about double the capacity. In the meantime, as an alternative, Buechel says Rolling Meadows Golf Course is open, not for golf, but for people to walk and get exercise.
