5-1-20 wisconsin governor tony evers goes “between the lines”

Wisconsin governor Tony Evers says there is a possibility the Safer at Home order could be lifted before it is scheduled to expire May 26.  “I think it’s possible,”  Evers told AM 1170s Between the Lines program.  “Over the last couple days the percentage of positive cases has gone down.  If that continues to go down that could reach it’s goal.”  The criteria is a drop for 14 days.   Evers recently rolled back restrictions on a handful of nonessential businesses and anticipates there will be similar orders in the days ahead.  “We will continue to look for those one-off things that don’t make sense and we can make changes that we feel confident will not spread the virus.”    Evers says when the criteria are met the order can be lifted.   “We really have to ramp up testing and we’re doing that, connected with that contact tracing, plus actually seeing a decrease in the percentage of COVID positive tests,”  Evers said.  “We still have a ways to go;  we’re surging in certain places in the state and  some of them in the rural areas, and many of them have to do with the processing of our agricultural products.”     Evers says he is also closely watching other states that are reopening businesses or will soon be reopening.  “Clearly there are some states since there are no requirements anymore the likelihood of the virus bouncing back instead of the Badger bouncing back is pretty strong in those states,”  Evers said.  “We just have to be very careful, follow the science as we make changes and loosen things up we have to observe how well they are working.”  Evers made the comments on AM 1170s Between the Lines program.
