The president of the state’s chamber of commerce says he believes Wisconsin can slowly and safely reopen the economy now. Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce has unveiled what they are calling their Back to Business plan, asking the governor to lift the Safer at Home order May 4. WMC president Kurt Bauer told WFDL news while there are flare-ups and hotspots in certain spots, the vast majority of the state there are rather minimal impacts from COVID-19. Bauer says the state can be safely reopened based on region and sector. “We’ve got flare-ups and hot spots in certain parts, but the vast majority of the state we have rather minimal impact from COVID-19,” Bauer told WFDL news. Bauer says the WMC plan uses a data-driven algorithm that allows businesses to reopen in a safe and strategic manner, but acknowledges there will be spikes in COVID-19 cases when the state reopens. “This plan is designed to recognize the severity of this pandemic and what it means to public health,” Bauer said. “But we do believe that it’s time to get back to work.”
