The Fond du Lac Festivals Board of Directors has announced new dates for this year’s Walleye Weekend festival. After postponing the event scheduled for mid-June, Fond du Lac Festivals has announced the event has been rescheduled for August 28 – 30 assuming restrictions on large public gatherings will be lifted by that date. “Due to current uncertainty of public gatherings, Fond du Lac Festivals has decided to move Walleye Weekend from June to August.” Board President, Terry Davis announced Friday. “Discussions with public health officials, city officials, and event partners have led us to this decision.” In response to the COVID-19 health crisis and current guidelines from state and local authorities, Fond du Lac Festivals will continue to work toward these dates in August for a Walleye Weekend – Reunited. The organizers of the Mercury National Tournament fully support this decision, according to a press release. The fishing tournament remains scheduled for June 13-14, though ongoing monitoring of circumstances may require an adjustment to this plan. Any such determination will be reached no later than mid-May and will focus on the safety and well-being of participants and spectators, while still working towards optimal fishing conditions. Fond du Lac Festivals says public health and safety will continue to be a priority and Walleye Weekend organizers will continue to seek recommendations from public health officials as they move forward with planning. This year will force organizers to rethink Walleye Weekend as the date change will pose new challenges with vendors and event partners. The hope is to move as many events and activities from the traditional Walleye Weekend to these new dates. “Walleye Weekend – Reunited may look a little different, but it will without a doubt be a great opportunity for friends and families to come together again at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.”
